Ok, so it wasn’t my first time cycling, but it was my first time in years. And when I’d gone in the past it was at your run-of-the-mill gym that happened to offer cycling classes, not an actual cycling studio. So what happens when you take a girl who’s used to yoga and boxing and stick her on a state-of-the-art bike? Let’s just say my butt still hurts…
This past weekend I stopped by the brand new CYCLEBAR at Halsted and Lake. In honor of their grand opening they are offering two free classes between now and July 1st (if you haven’t signed up for your classes make sure to do so here!). The studio itself is gorgeous, inviting, and full of great amenities, but I’ll save the studio love for another post, this is about the ride!
So what was I thinking during my first ride? We’ll I’m glad you asked:
Pre-ride: How the heck do I get my feet on this bike? How do I even set up this bike? What the heck did I get myself into? (Don’t worry if you’re wondering these things too they have fabulous team members ready to help you!)
5 min in: This isn’t so bad. I totally got this.
8 min in: But really, this is a breeze
10 min in: Did I say breeze? More like a swift wind…
15 min in: Ouch! My booty is starting to hurt.
18 min in: Thank god we’re out of the saddle.
20 min in: WHY ARE WE BACK IN THE SADDLE?! Does anyone else’s butt hurt?! I can’t be the only one whose butt hurts.
22 min in: Did she just say we’re doing arms soon?! A break for my legs?! YES
28 min in: Alright I got this. 4lb bar I’m going to make you my bitch.
30 min in: Are they sure this bar is only 4lbs? It feel like 20.
32 min in: IS ANYONE ELSE’S BUTT ON FIRE?! WHEN WILL WE GET OUT OF THE SADDLE?!
35 min in: Thank god we’re done with arms.
38 min in: Did she just say hill? Is my gear really at 13 right now?!
39 min in: *HILL SPRINT* I AM QUEEN OF THIS MOTHER F***ING HILL AND I WILL GET TO THE TOP!
39 1/2 min in: There is no greater feeling than not hill sprinting. Wait did she just say….
40 1/2 min in: *HILL SPRINT* I OWN YOU HILL! NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW!!!!
41 min in: I’m doing it… Top of the hill I’m coming for you!
41 1/2 min in: *HILL SPRINT* LAST ONE! HERE WE GO! I’M MAKING IT TO THE TOP OF THIS HILL!
42 min in: I MADE IT! I AM QUEEN OF THE HILL! HEAR ME ROAR!!!!!
43 min in: Flat land has never felt so good. My butt, not so much. Seriously how do people do this without padded shorts? Oh my god am I going to become one of those girls who buys padded shorts? (Still seriously considering it)
45 min in: This stretch feels sooooooo good.
46 min in: Is this MGMT?! Am I really stretching to MGMT? This instructor knows my soul.
47 min in: Wait I have to get off my bike? But I love my bike. We are one now.
48 min in: This hamstring stretch though……
49 min in: This stretch must be what heaven feels like.
End of ride: So is it time to ride again? But really? Can we hop back on for round 2?
The next day: Does everyone else’s butt still hurt today or is it just me?
But really! Who’s booty is still hurting? Because this can’t just be me?! But in all seriousness I loved this workout. Madison, our instructor, was engaging, enthusiastic and motivating throughout the whole ride. And her playlist was fire. And despite going in expecting a solely cardio workout, I left with my whole body feeling the burn and craving more.
